I really like what you've done with the Atlantic Greek court scene. I also find your light troops from HäT very nice, with the caveat that we all should know about purple and the poorer classes now. I also like the Romans from Strelets? and I actually haven't bought any of those. I had a period where I thought, Romans in ancient times are like the Germans in ww2: There have been so many produced that surely by now you can make all the troops 1:1 in representation. However I was wrong. Also my thought was that the strelets style was a bit too clunky to fit with the rest of the Romans I had. I am not sure what you've done to the shields, not sure I like those (for the Romans). Green and then dry brushed white? But their armor is spot on, I really can't fault you for anything else.

Honestly I thought he was Bruttian, but he is from the HäT Italian Allies set. You used to be able to go into the HäT site and look at what they were intended to represent. Unfortunately they decided to "update" their site, by closing off that part of it.
Very nice compagnions, Assyrians and Carthaginians. I think if it were me I'd like some more bright colors on the Carthaginians... but, the rest, super!

I was wrong. It is a Samnite or Campanian. At least according to the Osprey books I've checked.
It is very sad what the Hat company did. I looked at this part of the site almost every day. It is more likely that the figure represents a Campanian hoplite. The clothing of the Italian tribes at that time was very similar. We wouldn't be able to tell them apart from the clothing. But the warrior holds a Greek hoplon type shield. The only tribes still fighting this style of warfare in Italy were the Campanians, Etruscans, and Oscans. The Oscans are rejected because they carried a woven wicker shield. It could also be Etruscan. A Samnite could not, however, because the Samnites had adopted another fighting style different from the Greek style hoplite phalanx.
I found the following quotation (from wikipedia, but the source is ok):

This could mean that they Samnite linen legion could have been equipped in hoplite fashion. The tripple disc on his breast suggest Samnite. (EDIT: hmm.. maybe it is not a tripple disc)
This does not convince me at all - it is only a weak suggestion. The "Linteata" were bound by a special fighting to the death oath, not by a different fighting style. the Samnites would have to change their style so thorougly - almost impossible during a campaign. The Samnites/Oscans comquered Capua aka Campania from the Etruscans. The Coastal Samnites used round shields as represented in the Linear A set. The Hoplon seems uncommon for Oscans - so it might represent an Etruscan Ally - but did those guys use the triple disk cuirass?
I like the command figures in the last post :) They have shield designs so much more imaginative than mine, and their colors are subdued, and that looks real to me.
Beautiful paint job. But it shows after these early HÄT products... There is a full place for new Carthaginian warriors from LINEAR-A I can't wait to see.P
