Thessaly is a geographical division in central Greece. In ancient times it was an independent Hellenic kingdom as early as the 7th century B.C. when Aleuas the Pyrrhus united all the Thessalian tribes. In 352 BC Philip II, after his victory in the Crocus field, subdued Thessaly and incorporated the famous Thessalian cavalry into the Macedonian army. The Thessalians were known for their skill in horsemanship as early as the 5th century BC. The great plains of Thessaly provided significant tactical advantages to the cavalry.

The Thessalian cavalry took an active part in all of Alexander the Great's battles against the Persians and were of equal combat value to the Companion Cavalry.
The Thessalian cavalry after the death of Alexander continued to fight on the side of the Macedonians until the battle of Cynoscephalae in 197 B.C. against the Romans, where after the defeat of the Macedonians, Thessaly was separated from Macedonia.
Also a unit of Thessalian cavalry participated in Pyrrhus' campaign in Italy.
The colors I used are based on two figures from Alexander's sarcophagus that were thought to depict Thessalian horsemen.

Very nicely done. I like the shading, and the detailed saddle cloth. They look like they probably took a very long time to paint :) Horses look natural too.

Thank you Claus. Yes, they took a lot of time, about 4 to 5 hours each rider and horse. It also took time for the conversions (the swords are from other figures) and for the banner which is handmade. Finally, some time is required and the construction of the bases.

I think what figurenmaler1/72 is getting at is that we mentioned how Lilac is a rich man's color. That is it is not used very often. So it might seem a bit strange, to some, that they have lilac cloaks. ... I would love to hear a theory about why they did have it. Did Alexandre equip them, or did they themselves traditionally have this color?

Claus, I didn't know that. I relied purely on the artistic work I mentioned above. In Osprey's book The army of Alexander the Great, there are pictures of almost all of Alexander's units. One picture shows two Thessalian horsemen who have exactly this coloration. I can't upload the image due to copyright. The author explains the reasons why the horsemen are Thessalians and that the painter used these colors because he was based on the work called "Alexander's sarcophagus".
