The Achaemenid light cavalry consisted of unarmored cavalrymen with mainly javelins and horse archers. They could harass other light cavalry units and light and especially heavy infantry units. Their speed allowed them to perform hit and run tactics to attack supply trains and field armies. Their main enemies were archers and heavy cavalry like the Macedonian Companion cavalry and Cataphracts.
