I am wondering what the ideas are for these figures :) Any chance of making a broad statement of what it might contain? I realize this is very early in the creation process.

That would be a variety of Roman enemies. First of all the Bruttians who stock to Hannibal until Zama. Furthermore those Campanians / Capua or a part of the Samnites. Magna Graecia contigents of Tarentine or Syracuse also included. This means either quite Samnite looking folks or Hellenistic Style Italiotes.

You are Not right. Maybe those Campanians we're sculpted as coastal Samnites with their round shields etc, but those scutum carrying Guys we're missed entirely. Those other southern Guys with the destintive half scutum Samnites Style are also left out.

Yes you are right.
Some of Hat's Italic figures have a rectangular shield, like a Scutum , slightly domed.
And I must admit that I have quite a few of them.
